Wine tourism is the focus of an inclusive project with the creation of terms in sign language

During the 37th Festuris, the stand of the city of Bento Gonçalves offered a unique experience.

Tasting wines and sparkling wines and learning how to pair them with pecorino cheese and salami, but in an accessible way. During the 37th Festuris, the stand of the city of Bento Gonçalves offered a unique experience.

The proposal is to work on inclusion and involve people with any type of disability. "This project was created to develop terms that did not exist in the world of wine, words that did not exist in the world of sign language, of Libras. It was to develop and show that wine tourism can go far beyond what we are used to. It is to show deaf people that wine tourism goes far beyond the senses," points out sommelier Patrícia Possamai.

“Everyone has the same rights. The Bento Gonçalves School of Oenology, together with Salton Winery, created a project to include the deaf in the world of wine. A person was selected to create all the possible words so that the deaf could participate in the tasting, to understand when we talk about aroma, large glass,” says Denise Holleben, a tourism expert at the Bento Gonçalves Department of Tourism.

“It is not a promotion by Salton Winery for her, it is a social action distributed throughout Brazil. The project can be joined by any winery, anyone can read the QR Code, they have the project on the table and the video of them creating the words for the tasting,” explains the tourism expert.

Bento as a promoter of inclusion

"We are the Brazilian capital of wine and wine tourism, we work with inclusion, and there is nothing better than spreading this information and knowledge to the whole world. I say that pairing is a game for adults, because you're at home, you're having dinner with a group of friends, so why not agree to play with the food? And then it turns into a big party," concludes Holleben.
