International tourists generate R$ 32 billion in nine months

The figure is the highest ever recorded in the historical series for the period and represents an increase of 11.7% over the same period in 2024

International tourism in Brazil continues to reinforce the sector's growth in 2025 and its leading role in the national economy. From January to September, foreign visitors generated R$ 32.5 billion (US$ 6.044 billion) in the country, in expenses such as accommodation, food, transportation, leisure, and shopping. This is the highest amount ever recorded in the historical series for the period and represents an increase of 11.7% over the same period in 2024.

The data was released on Friday (24) by the Central Bank. In September alone, international tourists injected R$ 3.2 billion into the Brazilian economy, a 12.4% increase compared to the same month last year.

Tourism Minister Celso Sabino celebrates the results. “The Central Bank data reflects Brazil's position as one of the main destinations for international tourists. With this, the sector remains strong in generating jobs and income for Brazilians,” Sabino points out.

“It is a large chain that is moving and is driven by the international promotion work we have been developing, giving Brazil more and more space on the global market shelves and in this trend of historical records,” comments Embratur President Marcelo Freixo.

Businesswoman Marta Rossi, CEO of Festuris - Gramado International Tourism Fair, which takes place next week, from November 6 to 9, also highlights the good times the sector is experiencing. "The results released by the Central Bank reflect what we feel in practice: Brazilian tourism is booming. Festuris comes at a time of optimism and business consolidation, reinforcing Brazil's role as a competitive and inspiring destination on the international scene," says Marta.

RECORD – Also in September, Brazil set a historic record for international tourist arrivals. In the first nine months of the year, the country received 7,099,237 foreign travelers, a volume 45% higher than in the same period in 2024.

With this performance, Brazil surpassed, from January to September alone, the previous annual record set in 2024, when 6,773,619 international tourists came to the country. The new figure exceeds the annual target set in the 2024-2027 National Tourism Plan (PNT), which predicted the arrival of 6.9 million foreign visitors in 2025.
