Brazilian Tourism Closes First Half of 2025 with 6.6% Growth

Brazil’s tourism grew 6.6% in the first half of 2025, reaching record highs and confirming the sector’s strong momentum, reports IBGE.

The growth was driven primarily by passenger air transport, hotel reservations, restaurants, and lodging services. Fourteen of the 17 states surveyed registered positive results, with notable performances in Rio de Janeiro (+14.2%), Rio Grande do Sul (+9.4%), Bahia (+9.3%), Santa Catarina (+7.7%), São Paulo (+6.1%), and Paraná (+5.5%).

Tourism Minister Celso Sabino celebrated the numbers:

“This is an extraordinary moment for Brazilian tourism. We are breaking records in 2025, and we will continue to invest so that travelers experience the very best of Brazil.”

In June alone, the sector grew 4.1% year-on-year, marking the 13th consecutive month of positive performance. The industry now stands 11.6% above pre-pandemic levels (February 2020).

Additional Highlights

  • From January to May, tourism revenue reached R$90.4 billion—the highest since records began in 2012, according to FecomercioSP.

  • International arrivals surged to 5.95 million between January and July, up 47.5% year-on-year.

  • July alone saw 620,143 foreign visitors, a 41.9% increase compared with the same month in 2024.

The results reflect Brazil’s strengthened position as a global tourism destination and the success of federal initiatives promoting the country abroad.
